MySQL User Conference Opens April 24
The annual MySQL User Conference will run 24-27 April 2006 at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Silicon Valley. The conference will include 110 sessions and tutorials. Keynote speakers include Mårten Mickos, Tim O'Reilly, Greg Gianforte and Mitchell Kapor.

DAMA International Symposium Runs April 23-27 in Denver
The 18th annual will run 23-27 April 2006 at the Hyatt Regency Convention Center in Denver, Colorado. The DAMA event is a data management educational conference held in conjunction with the Wilshire Meta-Data Conference. Tutorials will run on Sunday and Monday, with regular conference sessions starting on Tuesday. On April 24, Claudia Imhoff will present Danger! Danger! Bad Data Ahead! On April 25, JP Morgenthal will present Enterprise Information Integration: A Pragmatic Approach. On April 26, Richard Hackathorn will present eXtreme Data Warehousing; Uchi Ogbuji will present XML Design for Form and Function; and Terry Halpin will present Expressing, Validating, and Implementing Advanced Constraints in Data Models.

XQuery and Database Presentations at TheServerSide Java Symposium
TheServerSide ran March 23-25, 2006 in Las Vegas. The conference included Frank Cohen's presentation about native XML databases and Jason Hunter's presentation about XQuery for the Java Geek. Scott Ambler presented a session about re-factoring database designs.

Oracle World Announcement of Fusion Architecture and Lifetime Support Policy
At Oracle Open World 2005, Oracle President Charles Phillips announced a Lifetime Support Policy for all PeopleSoft, JD Edwards and Oracle software. He
also announced Oracle Fusion Architecture based on grid computing, enterprise information architecture and service-oriented architecture.

Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund and Family Locator
The area devastated by Hurricane Katrina is approximately the size of Britain. A million people were evacuated and many lost their homes, jobs and businesses. The Red Cross is accepting donations and providing a family locator service.

Ralph Kimball Business Intelligence Webinar
Sybase announced that Ralph Kimball presented a one-hour titled "Real-time Business Intelligence: Evolution in Information Access". It ran October 25, 2005. Dr. Kimball explained "How a unified layer of shared data can speed business processes, eliminate stale information and enhance IT service levels."

IBM Business Intelligence Customer Solutions Summit in San Francisco
The San Francisco Hilton hosted the IBM Business Intelligence Customer Solutions Summit. For three days (October 10-15, 2005), IBM customers interested in analytics and business intelligence listened to presentations from IBM executives and business partners. The technical track included sessions on data warehouse sizing, implementing the Balanced Configuration Unit, and best practices for storage design for data warehouses.

Microsoft Announces SQL Server 2005 Launch at TechEd 2005
During a keynote address at Tech•Ed 2005 Europe, Andy Lees, corporate vice president of Server and Tools Marketing and Solutions, announced Microsoft would launch several products on November 7 in San Francisco, California. The launch included Microsoft® SQL Server™ 2005, Visual Studio® 2005 and BizTalk® Server 2006.
