2003

The dominant players in the 2003 DBMS market were SQL database companies, with IBM, Oracle and Microsoft having the largest share of the market.

2004

IBM and Oracle had the largest share of the DBMS market in 2004. There was a difference in the market share information reported by Gartner Dataquest and IDC. IDC reported Oracle was the market leader with a 41.3% share. Gartner Dataquest reported IBM was the market leader with a 34.2% share. IDC reported Microsoft had a 13.4% market share but Gartner reported it to be 20%.
